Come along for the voyage

Although you can't be on board with us, this blog has been created to share every leg of this voyage with all of you who have sailed on the Tamsen over the past 19 years. I will be posting regular updates and stories of life at sea as we make our way across the Atlantic and into the Mediterranean .

Check back often for logbook updates, fresh photo uploads, and video clips captured during this final two month journey onboard SY TAMSEN in 2026.

Can you tell AI wrote this: "Read the latest updates straight from the helm. From peaceful sunset watches to unexpected offshore weather, get a real look at life aboard SY TAMSEN." Very dramatic!

A Happy Occurrence in Portofino

Remember this sculpture in the hallway by the aft staterooms? When we visited Portofino, we always enjoyed stopping by the sculptor’s gallery. In 1997, when we took possession of the first Tamsen, we bought this piece.

Antibes and Monaco... in one day

We left Saint Tropez on Monday morning and anchored off of Antibes. We were happy to find that our favorite English bookstore is still there and also for Nina, Cal and Elena to join us. Our plan was to sail on to Monaco and anchor off so that people could go in for the evening. The weather gods had a different plan for most of us. The swells were big and rolling, making getting off and on the boat physically challenging. Some of the less physically challenged folks (aka the young people) were able to go into Monaco for an evening of dining and gambling. (Nick, Ben & Shawna won at Blackjack).

Saint Tropez!

During this time, more friends and family arrived: Nick, Mayah, Joe, Scott, Anthony, Ben & Shawna! We had a wonderful time there! You can now check out the slideshow.

Photoshoot for Tamsen in Nice

From Mallorca, we hightailed it to Nice to create the marketing material for Tamsen. David Seal, digital marketer and video producer, and his crew spent an entire day (7am – 7pm) aboard: David first filmed an interview with Steve, then he moved through the boat telling her story and introducing her to viewers. Interiors and exteriors were photographed and videoed, and drone footage was shot of the boat under sail. I have attached Henry’s footage of the crew at work. Also, Brogan’s drone footage of Tamsen at the dock in Nice. And finally, the professional video that was produced for Northrop & Johnson. I have also attached a link to their marketing material, which includes the video along with the still photos from this day.

Our stay in Mallorca

I chose this James Taylor song for the slideshow about Mallorca. In 1968, Taylor was recording his first album in London and he was very homesick. While on a trip to the Spanish Islands, he wrote this song about missing home. And since I’m in the Spanish Islands missing home, this felt like the perfect song. In addition, I don’t have any problem with copyrights because this version is performed and produced by the fathers of two of my grandchildren.
